1. MPC Disk compatibility with PCs As you might know, MPC2000 now uses MS-DOS format Floppy disks natively. And maybe the same is true for HDs and ZIPs. If you put a ZIP disk into a Windows machines' ZIP drive, the OS recognizes the dos file system and mount the disk properly. (tested on Win 95 and NT) and any data written on the disk can be recognized and loaded by MPC (in DOS compatible ways. As long as .wav files are in 16 bit intel format at 44.1 khz, MPC will read them fine. Even if the file's in 22.05 khz, MPC will adjust the tuning an octave low, so the file can be played at normal speed. If any error occurs, always check that they are in the format described above. (usually referred to as CD quality PCM.) And when you wanna transfer samples (.snd files) to a PC, you need to be a bit more careful with the file names. You can use up to 21 letters for each file on MPC, but this is done by using the reserved area of a DOS format disk. The area is used to store the long file names' information in windows 95 and above, and will confuse windows if you exceed the 8 + 3 letters limit of Dos file system. In the worst case, I can imagine losing all the data stored on the disk, so when transferring to PCs, make sure file names are in the form of 8 letters. plus 3 letters extension. (e.g., 'EIGHTCHR.SND'). |
